The Type Directors Club (TDC) has officially opened the call for entries for its three global student scholarship programs, reinforcing its commitment to advancing typographic excellence and expanding access to design education worldwide. Now part of The One Club for Creativity, TDC continues to champion the next generation of type and lettering talent through targeted financial awards and professional recognition.
The Adé Hogue Scholarship
The Adé Hogue Scholarship, sponsored by Monotype, honors the legacy of gifted Chicago-based art director, designer and letterer Adé Hogue, in cooperation with the Broderick Adé Hogue Foundation. A $5,000 award will be presented to an outstanding BIPOC student worldwide entering their junior year of college or first year of graduate or postgraduate study. Eligible applicants must demonstrate exceptional talent and promise in the design or use of letterforms. The deadline for entry is Friday, April 16, 2026.
The Beatrice Warde Scholarship
Also sponsored by Monotype, the Beatrice Warde Scholarship is named for pioneering journalist and typographical scholar Beatrice Warde — the first female member of TDC and a lifelong advocate for typographic education during her tenure with Monotype. The $5,000 scholarship recognizes a woman or non-binary student worldwide entering their junior year of undergraduate study whose work demonstrates exceptional talent, sophistication and aptitude for typography, lettering and type design. The entry deadline is Friday, April 16, 2026.
TDC Scholarship Program
The broader TDC Scholarship Program is open to undergraduate students worldwide entering their senior year (September 2026–May 2027) who exhibit outstanding skill in typography. Five $1,000 awards and four $500 awards will be granted. The application deadline is Friday, April 16, 2026. In addition to financial support, recipients of each scholarship will receive a one-year TDC student membership, including a copy of The World’s Best Typography® annual and complimentary admission to all TDC events — offering both recognition and meaningful industry access.
“We are incredibly fortunate with the support of Monotype to reward our future practitioners for their talents and creative endeavors,” said David Jon Walker, principal of Rhealistic in New Haven CT, associate professor of art in graphic design at Yale University, and TDC Advisory Board member. He added: “The importance of each specific scholarship seeks to ensure that the growth of our industry is sustainable and diverse. Our recognition of these students showcases the rich legacy and heritage of TDC promoting the importance of typographic education and letterform design. We thank the design educators all over the globe for building incredible students and promoting our scholarship opportunities. Without them our access to the designers of the future would be limited.”
All scholarship winners will be announced in May 2026.
