When the Association of Applied Paleontological Sciences (AAPS) decided to update their brand identity and logo, they tracked down Grant Sanders, founder of SAND for the assignment. He was tasked with creating a logo with a contemporary aesthetic that still reflected the nature of the ancient fossils the association works with.
According to Sanders, “AAPS Board member and college friend, Geoff Notkin got in touch while I was on my trip around the world and I was able to create a new logo for this established non-profit.”
The design blends a minimalist contemporary aesthetic with weathered typography and an authentic look and feel for a striking identity that excels in its storytelling.
The AAPS was founded in 1978 as an organization of professional fossil dealers, collectors, enthusiasts, and academic paleontologists for the purpose of promoting ethical collecting practices and cooperative liaisons with researchers, instructors, curators and exhibit managers in the paleontological academic and museum community.
